jerry lewis is leaving

I remember that a couple of weeks back, I informed you about Jerry Lewis’ decision of bidding adieu to MDA Labor Day Telethon.The announcement came a few weeks before the telethon, which Mr. Lewis has hosted since 1966. In May Mr. Lewis said he was retiring from the show, a television staple, but he had planned to appear on it this year. Now that’s not happening, according to R. Rodney Howell, the chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s board. Mr. Howell also said in a statement that Mr. Lewis had been “released” from his position as national chairman of the association, but did not explain why.Lewis, 85, has been the MDA's national chairman since the early 1950s and has hosted the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon since 1966.  Three children reported seeing a man who may have had a gun under a “covering” in his hand  — at Virginia Tech, the site of a massacre in 2007.  The school put the lessons learned from the tragedy into rapid use, locking down the campus and starting a massive search for the suspect:    Virginia Tech was locked down Thursday when three children attending a summer camp said they saw a man holding what looked like a gun on the campus where a 2007 massacre left 33 people dead.     The university issued an alert on its website at 9:37 a.m. Thursday telling students and employees to stay inside and lock their doors. University spokesman Larry Hincker said during a news conference later in the morning that the campus alert remained in effect and that people should stay indoors until further notice.     The university posted the alert on its website and its official Twitter account. The Roanoke Times also reported that the university sounded its emergency sirens and issued an emergency ale

Sonia Gandhi Undergoes Surgery In US

Congress president Sonia Gandhi underwent surgery in the US today, the details of which are still not available. The official, Janardan Dwivedi, would not comment on the specifics of Mrs. Gandhi's condition. Mr. Dwivedi said he and three other Congress officials -- Defense Minister A.K. Antony, political secretary Ahmed Patel and Mrs. Gandhi's son, Rahul Gandhi -- will look after party affairs while she is gone.
