Facebook ,teen,adults,and students

A new study from California State University, Dominguez Hills released Monday found that spending too much time on Facebook may lead people to suffer psychologically, according to a release from the American Psychological Association. That’s according to Larry Rosen, a psychologist at Cal State Dominguez Hills who’s been studying the effect of technology on people for more than 25 years. Recently, he’s done several studies on how the social networking site affects children. He made his case Saturday at the American Psychological Assn.’s annual convention in Washington, D.C. on Saturday. While social networking site Facebook was created to help people connect with their friends, increasing research in the effect of social media on human interaction is painting a different picture -- one that features the development of antisocial behavior, narcissism and a slew of other character flaws and negative by-products. It's so interesting yet so utterly unsurprising that the views of wha...

When Twitter Met Facebook -- Awkwardly

You would think that a meeting between the founders of the world’s most popular social networks would be a fun affair, with conversation revolving around funding, investments and who has the bigger userbase. In reality, it appears it is a much more dour experience, at least if Twitter co-founder Biz Stone is to be believed. In November 2008, Twitter co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams jumped into a car and ventured over to Facebook to meet Mark Zuckerberg, in a meeting which we recognise as the time when Facebook tried to buy Twitter. Talking in an interview with NPR’s Peter Sagal, Stone reveals the awkward meeting with Zuckerberg, thanks largely to the Facebook founder’s apparent lack of humour. When asked whether Twitter’s founders were members of “incredibly luxurious club “you and Zuckerberg and the guys from Google all get together and you sit in these, like, solid gold armchairs and you all just stare at your smartphones and never talk to each other,”  Stone admits it ...

Facebook accidentally resets email notifications, fixes glitch

Image via Wikipedia Facebook yesterday accidentally reset email notifications for some users. The social network lets users pick and choose what event on Facebook results in an email sent to their inbox (there are now 73 notification options to choose from). We are currently working on a solution to this problem. The issue has since been fixed, according to Facebook. “Yesterday evening, we discovered a bug that caused a small number of people to start receiving notifications they had previously turned off,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement. “We have since resolved the issue and apologize for any inconvenien...

Facebook entrance to China

Image via Wikipedia Entering China would give Facebook access to the world’s largest Internet market, with more than 457 million Web users. People who want to get on the social network there now rely on private-network services to circumvent firewalls that bar access to information the government deems inappropriate. Facebook, with more than 500 million users, aims to expand in other parts of the world to add members and advertisers. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg visited China in December and met with Internet companies including Baidu Inc. and Sina Corp. He also met with Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Mobile Ltd., who said the pair discussed “the possibility of cooperation” in China. “We are currently studying and learning about China, as part of evaluating any possible approaches that could benefit our users, developers and advertisers,” Palo Alto, California- based Facebook said in an e-mailed statement. owner of the world’s most popular social-networking se...
