Sonia Gandhi Undergoes Surgery In US

Congress president Sonia Gandhi underwent surgery in the US today, the details of which are still not available. The official, Janardan Dwivedi, would not comment on the specifics of Mrs. Gandhi's condition. Mr. Dwivedi said he and three other Congress officials -- Defense Minister A.K. Antony, political secretary Ahmed Patel and Mrs. Gandhi's son, Rahul Gandhi -- will look after party affairs while she is gone.

The absence of the 64-year-old figurehead of India's most prominent family dynasty may further hamper the Congress-led coalition government, which is already seen as rudderless amid a raft of corruption scandals and public fury over high inflation. Making the announcement, Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi, told reporters in Parliament House that the 64-year-old leader was recently diagnosed with a medical condition and has been advised surgery.

"Generally her condition is satisfactory but her operation has not taken place as yet," Janardan Dwivedi, a general secretary of the party, told reporters. The land, which belonged to the panchayat, was reportedly alloted to the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and HR Sachdeva, a dentist alleged to be close to the Gandhi family.

The Italian-born Gandhi is the leading figure of a family that has ruled the country for much of India's independence, holding together the biggest national party through electoral troubles and scandals in this country of 1.2 billion people.

ellie goulding singing at the Royal Wedding

In a recent interview to Standard Magazine singer Ellie Goulding talks about her encounter to the royal couple and how they invited her to sing at their wedding. The forces aligned neatly in May for this episode: Osama bin Laden's death had been announced five days earlier; the show started strong with Fred Armisen as bin Laden and later had Jason Sudeikis as Satan, I've had my real rock'n'roll phase and I don't want to go back to it because I wasn't in a good place then.  I didn't realise where I was heading. And I didn't realise I'd end up here.' In 2011 she will take on her first American tour after the American release of Bright Lights and see the release of her collaboration with Tinie Tempah when his single “Wonderman” is released. And that's my dark side, I suppose, and I have to accept it will never fully leave me. The 24-year-old singer was introduced to the couple in May 2010 after her performance at the Radio 1'...

Bollywood Actress Sonakshi Angers Pakistani Fans

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha annoyed some of her fans from Pakistan when she tweeted a morphed picture of Shahid Afridi getting whacked by an Indian batsman just before the India-Pakistan semi final match on Wednesday. The actress added a caption as well: 'De ghumaaaaake! Hehehehahahaha.' But the Dabangg girl did not imagine that her little joke would irritate fans. Her fans started tweeting back, telling her to be a goodwill ambassador between the two countries and learn a few things from Salman Khan. Some of them even unfollowed her on twitter. Sonakshi soon realised the intensity of her tweet and calmed her fans down by asking them to be a sport, and that she was just joking. She then deleted the picture from her twitter account. 'Pak fans very upset. jung ke maidan mein ladne se toh accha hi hai khel ke maidan mein ladein! I am all for love thy neighbour. Be a sport yaar,' she tweeted.

josh hamilton died,,,when he was trying to catch a foul ball

A tragic accident occurred Thursday in Arlington, Texas, where the Texas Rangers were playing the Oakland Athletics, when a 39-year-old fan fell to his death after trying to catch a foul ball thrown by Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton. Oh how things have changed in a single year for LeBron James. It's been 365 days since the infamous "Decision" and I'm not sure that time has heeled this particular wound. Still, in the grand scheme of things, you'd have to say James, the Heat, and the NBA don't regret "the Decision"...ESPN might. In one year, the Heat came within a few games of a championship, James shook off some of his critics (at least through the Eastern Conference Finals), and the NBA Finals received tremendous ratings. night died after Josh Hamilton tossed a foul ball to him in the second inning. Shannon Stone, a Brownwood, Texas, firefighter attending the game with his young son, was along the left field outfield wall and fell throu...
