The Perseid meteor shower is underway. International observers are now reporting more than 20 meteors per hour as Earth passes through a stream of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on the night of Aug.

The difference this year was the fact that it was going to happen on a full moon night, reducing the chances of the stargazers to get hold of the falling stars that may be otherwise visible in a black night.
The nearly-full moon will likely wash out some of the dimmer meteors, but the weather is forecast to be pretty nice over a large swath of the country tonight.
