Gay Marriages same sex -IN USA Latest News

NEW YORK — While many gay couples in New York tie the knot on Sunday, when same-sex marriage becomes legal in the state, Ashley Abraham-Hughes and her wife, Corinne, will be watching the festivities from the other side of the Atlantic. back in March that he supports same-sex marriage as part of a survey the Globe did of the state’s congressional delegation. At least 10 countries - including Argentina, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Belgium and South Africa - have legalized same-sex marriage. At least 20 other countries recognize or perform civil unions - a status that typically confers most or all of the legal rights and privileges of marriage without deeming the union to be a true marriage.

But when the paper reported that at the time, it accidentally left Kerry’s title and first name out of the story, so his reversal on the issue went under the radar.

Then, Kerry penned a July 10 Globe op-ed, citing his own journey to gay marriage backer and defending President Barack Obama’s “right to evolve” on the issue. That didn’t seem to get much attention either. The Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, enacted by Congress in 1996, blocks federal recognition of same-sex marriage, thereby denying various benefits given to heterosexual couples — such as the right to immigrate. Thirty-seven states have defense of marriage acts, while six states and the District of Columbia allow same-sex marriage, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. When a story - about how gay marriage was no longer a political wedge issue - appeared in the newspaper a week later, a condensation mistake resulted in the senator’s job title and first name being left off a sentence reading, “A Globe survey of the Massachusetts congressional delegation shows support for gay marriage and for repealing the Defense of Marriage Act by Kerry and each of the Bay State’s House members, all Democrats.”
