ComEd has indicated that more than 615,000 Chicago-area customers are presently without electricity. Approximately 45 percent of these outages (280,000) are localized across the northern suburbs.

ComEd is reporting that more than 80,000 customers in Illinois' northern region are without power due to the severe thunderstorm earlier this morning.
ComEd spokeswoman Arlana Johnson says about 28,000 customers were still in the dark Friday morning. Johnson says the bulk of those are in Chicago's northern suburbs, where strong winds downed tree limbs and power lines.
The storm pelted parts of Northern Illinois with golf ball-sized hail. And a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Chicago says a gauge on the beach at Waukegan Harbor registered a hurricane-strength wind gust of 94 mph. Waukegan is about 40 miles north of Chicago.
There are nearly 400 crews out currently working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”
Northbrook Public Works director Kelly Hamill said the storm front moved through Northbrook at 8:45 a.m. Monday, hitting the village with 71 mph winds and a quarter inch of rain.

A Nicor subsidiary recently entered an agreement with Dominion Resources to provide the electricity under the “Nicor Electric” name, said Nicor spokesman Richard Caragol. Nicor will provide marketing and customer-call support for the electric service, he said. Dominion, based in Richmond, Va., provides electricity to more than 750,000 customers in 13 states.At least 2,500 are without power in northern Cook County and up to the Wisconsin border. An additional 78,000 residents in Illinois’ western territory are also without electricity.
In Chicago, 500 people are said to be without electricity.
A ComEd official said there are more than 450 crew members repairing storm outages. A timetable was not given as to when electricity would be up and running.In our earlier alert, we urged supporters of concealed carry to attend Rep. May’s town hall meeting and challenge her on her position against self defense. In response to our alert, Rep. May issued a statement saying that her staff would be checking IDs at the door to the meeting and would deny entry to anyone who did not live in Rep. May’s House District.
